Cherishing Children and their Futures

Respectful. Resilient. Resourceful.

Crystal Palace Cross Country Nov 2019

On Saturday 16th November Unicorn entered a team into the Bromley Primary Schools Cross Country Competition held at Crystal Palace Park. Despite the very muddy conditions and the early start, the 14-pupil strong team were prepared to run their hearts out running a distance of 1,800 metres per race. For some this race was a new experience where others showed real determination to improve on previous race positions. The pupils were very privileged to have an appearance from the 200 metres World Champion Dina Asher-Smith who started some of the races and proved a real inspiration.

Primary Panathlon

On Thursday 7th November, 6 children from KS1 and KS2 went to Coopers Secondary School to take part in an inclusive festival, the Bromley Primary Panathlon. The children had to compete in a number of exciting games including Boccia Blast, Kurling, Poly Bat and Parachute Popcorn. The Unicorn team was made up of children from different year groups: Troy (Year 2); Michael (Year 3); and Coco, Caleb, Tyla and Joe (Year 5). All of the team thoroughly enjoyed the morning and played brilliantly. Mrs Dodd and Mrs Denis, who accompanied the team, were impressed with the group’s teamwork skills and how well they behaved throughout the morning. A special mention goes to Joe who won an award for demonstrating the value ‘Courage’.

Years 5 & 6 Football Tournament

On Wednesday 6th November, Unicorn entered a team in the Bromley Years 5/6 Boys' Football Tournament at Kent County Cricket Ground. The team consisted of 10 boys from Years 5 and 6: Harry, Freddie, Joshua, Kenan, Lucas, Max, Rocco, Felix, Jude and Jas. Mr Harrison, who accompanied the team, described the day as a ‘rollercoaster of emotions’! The morning kickstarted with the team winning their first match against St Marks and another match against St Nicholas. However, as the morning went on, the Unicorn team lost two matches against Keston and St James. In the final match of the morning, Unicorn managed a draw against Worsley Bridge which was enough to secure the team a place in the cup final in the afternoon. In the afternoon, a further five matches were played and Unicorn was up against some tough competition. The boys continued to do their best with Felix showing resilience in goal and Rocco giving it his all in defence. Congratulations to the team who achieved joint 5th place overall out of 18 Bromley schools who competed.

Years 5 & 6 High Five Netball Competition

Bromley Yr 5/6 High Five Netball Tournament - On Thursday 3rd October, Unicorn entered a team in the first sporting competition of the academic year, the Bromley High Five Netball Tournament at Hayes Secondary School. Due to some last minute illnesses, only 5 girls could compete on the day which meant a busy afternoon of netball as they all had to play every game, with no rotations! However, they all took to the court with a determined attitude and gave it their best shot. Unfortunately, the team did not qualify for the finals this time around, but are looking forward to continuing their training at the after school Netball Club. Well done to Brooke, Nevaeh, Sophia, Grace and Lana for showing a great team spirit!
